Heating in a converted bus (tiny house on wheels)

Back to overview

Dominik is a professional in camper conversions. He founded a YouTube channel in 2018 and has been sharing his knowledge with the community ever since. His current project: converting a former bus into a cozy tiny house on wheels. The walls and floor have already been clad – now he needs to find a suitable heating system.

Dominik (his YouTube channel is called Freundship) presents in this video which Könighaus infrared heaters he has chosen. He needs a total of 2,000 watts for his living space. He has divided this into an 800 watt and a 1,200 watt picture heater.

The special feature of the photo heaters: They have a concealed cable guide. This is particularly useful if the power connection is located behind the heater. (Tip: The hidden cable guide is a custom-made product and can be ordered from our customer service. Simply send us an email using the contact form or give us a call).

To heat his small (future) bathroom, Dominik opted for our 300 watt mirror heater. In the video, he gives us an idea of what it could look like one day. His feedback: Ideal for small bathrooms – because the mirror and heater are combined in one device.

In addition to the infrared heating system, he is also planning to install a stove – for cosiness.

2 operating options

In his video, Dominik shows you 2 ways to operate the Könighaus infrared heaters.

The first option is a radio thermostat, which consists of a transmitter and receiver. The thermostat can be positioned at a desired location in the room. This ensures accurate heat measurement. The function behind it: Let us assume that the room temperature is 18 °C. The set desired temperature is 20 °C. The infrared heater then heats until 20 °C is reached. It then switches off automatically.

He also came up with a second solution himself. He ordered a smart thermostat (suitable for concealed cable routing). Instead of using the radio thermostat transmitter, he operates the thermostat with his cell phone.

We are curious to see which of the two solutions he will finally choose ?

Heating in the Tiny House

Heating with infrared in the Tiny House is nothing new. Here we link you to the article Heating in the Tiny House. In it you will find information on how the “Tiny House” movement came about in the first place. We also show you a real example of a Tiny House in which infrared heating is used successfully.

Why are infrared heaters suitable for a mini home?

  • They are space-saving. Infrared heaters in the form of photo heaters or mirror heaters are ideal where space is at a premium. 2 applications and only 1 used space unit.
  • Quickly up to operating temperature. On average, infrared heaters reach operating temperature in 3 minutes and emit a pleasant radiant heat. This means they are ready for use at short notice.
  • Heating on demand. The Könighaus thermostats can be used to set time schedules and heating rules. This means you always heat according to demand, which is particularly suitable if the Tiny House is not regularly occupied.
  • They are beautiful. Your own photo on a radiator – that can only be beautiful and exactly to your taste.
  • Made in Germany. By purchasing a Könighaus infrared heater, you are supporting a German family business.
  • High quality standards. The photo heaters are printed with food-safe ink and meet all requirements, so they have been awarded the Greenguard certificate. You also receive a 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee from us.
  • Simple installation: Dominik shows you in the video how easy it is to install the infrared heaters. This means you can carry out the installation all by yourself without the need for a tradesman.
  • Pleasant warmth. The direct heat/radiant heat warms people and objects directly and without the detour of “air heating”. This means that you are quickly warm and the heat feels similar to that of a tiled stove/sun rays.
  • Photos make your room feel homely. Whether it’s a picture or a radiator, a photo on the wall immediately makes any room a little more cozy and invites you to feel good.
  • Can be operated with green electricity. The combination with self-generated electricity from a photovoltaic system is particularly recommended. If you don’t have one to hand, the heating system can also be combined with your trusted green electricity provider.
  • No maintenance work. Bleed the heating and co? False alarm. This is not necessary with infrared heaters. Once installed, they will give you pleasure for a long time without you having to carry out any maintenance work.
  • Great customer support. No matter which step of the process you have a question about or would like assistance with: our customer service team is there to help and advise you. Whether it’s pre-purchase advice on performance/wattage, a question about installation or an unexpected challenge. Together we can handle anything.

Conclusion

Infrared heaters are suitable for heating a tiny house. Dominik from Freundship shows how he uses Könighaus infrared heaters to heat his converted bus. He himself calls his converted bus a Tiny House. But infrared heaters are also used in (non-mobile) Tiny vacation homes. Do you also have a Tiny House that you heat with infrared? We look forward to hearing your story, please let us know.
