Your fall checklist

Compacting joints
Do you have a draught? This is not only uncomfortable, but can also drive up your heating costs. Old windows and doors in particular need an occasional check of the seals. Over time, seals lose their plasticizers and become porous. Our tip: If you dare to replace the seals yourself, cut out a small sample piece. You can show this to a specialist store to make sure you get the same type of seal. Before inserting the seal, it is important to remove the old residue and clean the area beforehand.
To keep the heat in your home for as long as possible, lower the shutters in the evening. Alternatively, or preferably even additionally, thick curtains can help.
A thick curtain at the front door also helps to retain heat for longer.
At this point, we would like to mention the door bottom seal. These are available for gluing in brush form or as a roll (surely you know the dachshund shape?). Cold draughts are stopped at the front door and do not enter your home.
Regular ventilation plays a particularly important role when the home is well sealed. Adapt your ventilation behavior to autumn: Ventilate in bursts instead of tilting windows. You can read more tips on how to ventilate properly here.
Get additional heating

The “Golden Autumn” collection is here!
Do you like to combine the useful with the beautiful? Then a picture heater is just the thing for you. Infrared heaters are practical supplementary heaters. They do not require a water-bearing pipe system and do not need to be maintained or vented. They work with your household’s normal power supply. The great thing about them is that they not only look like a picture, they are as easy to install as a picture. In addition, infrared heaters are particularly energy-efficient thanks to their direct heat.
In keeping with the golden season, we have put together a fall collection for you. In it you will find colorful photographs under the motto Golden Autumn.
Programming the thermostat
Despite all the early preparations, the first really cold day sometimes comes as a surprise. To heat as efficiently as possible, make sure you program your thermostat individually in advance. The Könighaus thermostat allows you to plan individual daily and weekly schedules. This allows you to heat according to your needs and always when you are at home. Do something good for yourself and the environment!
Mobile desk heater
Do you spend a large part of your working day at your desk? With little movement and working in a sitting position, your feet and legs can quickly feel cold. Increase your well-being and get warm. With the curved desk heater, you can warm up your feet and legs selectively and efficiently. Add a hot drink such as tea or golden milk and you’ll be comfortably warm inside and out. Venting the heating
Have you ever turned up the radiator and it still remained cold? To prevent this from happening, it is advisable to bleed the radiators before the start of the heating period. The whole process is quite quick and only takes 5 minutes per radiator. The pump should be switched off beforehand. If you do not have access to the pump, you can also simply close the heating circuit. Once you have done this, wait approx. 1 hour before continuing. During this time, the air will collect inside the radiators.
What you need in any case is a bleeder wrench. This is a standardized square wrench. If you don’t have one, you are sure to find one at your local DIY store. Use the wrench to turn the heating valve anticlockwise. A four-part to half turn – and both air and any water can escape from the radiator. It is best to have a bowl or other container ready to collect the water. As soon as no air escapes, but only water, close the valve again. Repeat the process for all radiators in your home. That’s it.
Why is it important to vent your radiator? If there is air in the radiator, it cannot heat up completely. In addition, annoying noises such as gurgling can occur. To counteract this, we put the routine described on our autumn checklist.
Care for plants
Caring for houseplants should not be missing from the fall checklist. Tropical plants in particular, which have been on the balcony or in the garden during the warmer months, need to be protected from the cold. Bring them into your warm home. Find them a nice spot by the window with sunlight. If your plants are on a windowsill above a heater, you can counteract the dry air with a humidifier.
Houseplants are great helpers for a good indoor climate and clean air. Some plants are particularly efficient at removing pollutants from the air and also release clean oxygen. Indoor plants such as the green lily, dragon tree and common ivy are particularly efficient.
By the way, a cozy home for hedgehogs consists of leaves, wood and brushwood. Leave leaves in the garden if you want to give the hedgehogs a place in your garden. You can feed the hedgehogs with non-perishable cat food.
Organize your closet
Last but not least, let’s add closet organization to the autumn list. Start by sorting out unused items of clothing. Ask around your circle of friends if anyone has them or would like to swap them – give them away, donate them or recycle them.
You can store clothes that you only wear in summer in a separate place: Pack them neatly in boxes. Before you put your summer clothes away for the winter, make sure that all items of clothing have been washed. Sweat residue in textiles attracts moths.
If you store your clothes in plastic boxes, you should make sure that they are completely dry to prevent mold growth. A paper box is more permeable to air and the formation of mold is less likely.
Sort your fall wardrobe according to your taste: by color, type of fabric or type of garment. An organized closet structure will help you make fashionable decisions and feel autumnal in your everyday life.
Speaking of textiles: make your bed fit for fall. Cooling bed linen made of silk or satin is popular in summer. Cover your bed with cozy cotton bed linen and add a woolen blanket. Incidentally, the bedroom should be the coldest room in the house.
Conclusion – Fall checklist
